SOUTHERN OREGON ADVENTURES
Spring Break 2020 is going to be one of the most memorable for years to come. Covid-19 is forcing us to re-examine travel plans, gatherings, eating out, sports… and focus more on social distancing, quarantines, and staying close to home.
We started our spring break at the very beginnings of Covid-19, and ended it in a full blown pandemic. The cancellation of ALL THE THINGS. Whether you are staying indoors, or practicing social distancing by heading outdoors away from the masses of people – maybe you’ll be able to find some ideas to keep your kids busy and happy from this post.
First, I would love to share our incredible stay at the Ashland Hills Hotel.
You can also check out our stay at the Ashland Hills Hotel during our Fall Staycation here! Ashland Hills Hotel has our favorite amenities – pool, hot tub, tennis + pickleball courts, AND bikes for rent! Not to mention, Luna Cafe is right inside the Hotel – and has great food, great kids meals, and great prices!
I am going to start with our favorite adventures we look forward to every year in Southern Oregon.
You can see all of our favorite hikes here. The beauty throughout Southern Oregon is absolutely breathtaking. Our favorite hikes always revolve around water. If we can find a hike with a lake nearby, or a stream… that is definitely a plus with kids!
The Southern Oregon coast is magical. We have driven up and down the Oregon coast, and still prefer the Southern part our most favorite. We have been to Brookings almost every month out of the year – and even in November, we have hit sunny and warm weather! It truly is magical. Go here to check out all our Brookings recommendations.
SO. MANY. WATERFALLS. I have a complete list of waterfalls you can hit in ONE day! Check them out here.
- fruit picking
One of our most favorite things to do in Southern Oregon is to go fruit picking. Apples, peaches, cherries… so many options! Click here to check out our list of where to go each season.
- Visiting Farms
We love visiting the different produce farms throughout the valley, especially during fall. Pheasant Fields Farm is one of our favorite places to go during their fall festival
We ALWAYS take visitors into Ashland. Lithia Park is of course a highlight, and walking around downtown, visiting each of the cute shops, and hitting up some of our favorite restaurants is a favorite for everyone! Here are some fun things to do in Ashland during the year.
Jacksonville is the most charming town you will ever see. EVER. The old brick buildings, The Britt Pavilion which hold the famous Britt Music Festival and The Children’s Festival each year is amazing. We love the wooded trails, the Chinese New Year Parade, and checking out their antique shops downtown. Such an adorable place to live and visit!
You can’t visit Southern Oregon without visiting some of their amazing lakes. Lake of the Woods is our all time favorite, but we also love Ashland’s Emigrant Lake and also Applegate Lake. Check out our list of all the lakes in the area!
It took us almost 4 years to finally visit Illinois River. Do NOT pass up visiting this river if you have the chance. The roads are sketchy and windy, but so worth the drive! We loved it so much, we went two weekends in a row.
- Wildlife Safari
Our favorite day excursion outside the Rogue Valley is to visit Wildlife Safari. The animal encounters are awesome! We have fed an elephant, bears, giraffes and been up close to a cheetah. Check out our visits here!
When we road tripped up to Southern Oregon after moving back to Arizona, we hit the VERY end of winter. Spring is my absolute FAVORITE Oregon season, but summer is pretty magical too. We can’t wait to plan our next summer adventure and we will for sure do everything on this list. A huge thank you to Ashland Hills Hotel for letting me stay with our crazy crew and making me feel welcome and safe traveling alone!
