SEA LIONS, SEALS, SHARKS, STARFISH….
We saw it all at Newport’s Oregon Coast Aquarium. We absolutely loved the aquarium. It was the most perfect size for the kids. Not too overwhelming – just perfect. We’ve been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium a handful of times, and that one is obviously amazing, but also twice the price, and twice the size – which just makes for a reeeaaallly long day for little kids.
I felt like the Oregon Coast Aquarium was great! We got there right in the morning as it opened, and were able to catch almost all the morning feedings for the seals, sea lions, otters, and more.
Our favorite were the Seals and Sea Lions 🙂 This guy put on quite a show for us while the kids sat and watched. We had this entire area to ourselves for a while, and loved it!
Can you spot the scuba diver? Fitz thought that was pretty cool.
Fun Fact: did you know you can receive free admission on your birthday? Just bring your ID or proof of bday… and there you go! Party at the aquarium 🙂
This was such a cool feature to have at the aquarium! Passages of the Deep was one of my favorites. Fitz loved the open window in the floor and I even found him slithering across staring down at the fish.
Oregon Coast aquarium also has a little kid’s area with deep sea diving costumes, ocean games, and stuffed animals to keep the kids engaged in learning for about ocean life. The girls were playing shark bingo.
We also visited the bird atrium where we were able to see Puffins and other types of sea birds.
I always love the tide pools at aquariums. Being able to touch and see everything up close is always so much fun for kids.
Some tips I would recommend for visiting the Oregon Coast Aquarium:
- Get there early
- Buy your tickets ahead of time to beat the line
- If you want to take pictures inside the Passages of the Deep before it gets crowded with people – go during an otter or sea lion feeding
- prepare for at least an entire morning to see everything!
A huge thanks to @oregoncoast & @OregonCoastAquarium for having us experience the best part of Newport! They also allowed me to give away 4 passes to a family through instagram! We really fell in love with Newport, and can’t wait to come back.
