OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN APPLEGATE
6 KID-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES
Applegate is one of the most beautiful small towns in Southern Oregon. Just west of Medford, each of these activities are less than an hour away 🙂
I wanted to share with you my family’s favorite things to do in Applegate! Most of these can be seen year round, although the Lavender Farms are only open during the summer months.
- LAVENDER FARM
We make sure to get out to The English Lavender Farm every summer. The farm has u-pick lavender for $6 a bundle (as much as you can wrap inside a large twisty-tie), as well as lavender ice-cream, and lavender infused lemonade. Check out more of our visits HERE
2. SANCTUARY ONE
This animal sanctuary is part “care-farm.” From April to mid October, they provide 90 minute Public tours of the 55 acre care farm (the tour is less than a mile walk) to see their rescued animals and more. You must make reservations! Check out more of our visit HERE
3. APPLEGATE LAKE
One of our favorite lakes in all of Southern Oregon. It is a “no-wake” lake, which means its perfect for SUP & kayaking (which you can rent right at the lake). There is a large grassy hill that starts from the picnic areas all the way to the water, making a perfect gathering place for a day at the lake. Check out more of our visit HERE
4. HIKING TO THE BIGFOOT TRAP
This is a really fun and easy hike to the one and only known BigFoot Trap in the world! The trailhead is right up the road from Applegate Lake, and a 3/4 mile hike. Be sure to check out my post with directions HERE before heading out.
5. PENNINGTON FARMS
Our very first time exploring Applegate, we stopped at Pennington Farms. although they are at the Rogue Valley Grower’s Market, a stop at their actual location is very charming… not to mention delicious! We bought berry turnovers while there, and have had many of their jams and sweets at the Grower’s Market.
6. MCKEE COVERED BRIDGE
The longest & oldest covered bridge in Jackson County. This charming bridge is the perfect backdrop far any family photo. The McKee Picnic Ground, a Rogue National Forest facility, is at the west end of the bridge along the Applegate River.
We LOVE heading to Applegate! Downtown Jacksonville is right on the way and a great place to stop for lunch before/after your day spent in Applegate.
